This clump-forming perennial makes a welcome addition to any border with its conspicuously silver-veined dark green leaves. From mid to late summer the silver bracts, surrounded by a spiky collar, are produced on blue branching stems. Full sun. Dry well drained poor to moderately fertile soil.

A large species sea holly from S. America .  Clump-forming, evergreen perennial with long, narrow mid-greenleaves with spiny margins.  In late summer produces very tall stemswith spherical umbels of whitish green flowers. Fully hardy, full sun and a well drained soil.

Eryngium x zabelii 'Donard Variety'

Clump forming, tap-rooted perennials.  Very large grey-blue flowers with extra large cones, whole plant silvery-grey when mature.  Fully Hardy. Full Sun. Dry well drained poor to moderately fertile soil. Irish Cultivar from Slieve Donard Nursery, Newcastle, Co. Down.
