Acanthus mollis

Native to the Mediterranean, this is one of the oldest plants in cultivation dating back to ancient Greek times. It has basal clusters of deeply-lobed dark green leaves. In late summer produces tall spikes of white flowers with dusky purple bracts. Prefers deep, fertile, well-drained soil in part shade. Fully Hardy.

Acanthus spinosus - AGM

Clump forming perennial with arching, dark green leaves, to 1m long, deeply cut to the midribs, with spiny margins.  Tall spikes of hooded, smoky-purple bracted, white flowers are produced in  long racemes to 1m, in mid-summer..  Prefers deep, fertile, well-drained soil in part shade. Fully Hardy.
